After a good night’s sleep at Bridge of Orchy and the best breakfast of the Way thus far (scrambled eggs and smoked salmon), we caught the bus back along to Tyndrum to walk back past Bridge of Orchy again on route to Inveroran. This was our planned hill day but due to a fair bit of snow overnight and the weather forecast prior, we’d binned that plan; on the upside, Storm Dave seemed to have passed us by.
Heading across the road to the bus stop the chill in the air could be felt, a stark difference to yesterday. As we got closer to Tyndrum, the sky darkened and the windscreen got spattered. By the time we pulled up in Tyndrum, we were in the midst of a mini blizzard! We stopped in the bus shelter to put our waterproofs on before going any further. The buses had converged here to transfer passengers, the drivers comparing photos of last night’s snow in Glencoe.
Suitably clad (it’s amazing the difference a hat and some gloves make), we set off.

Many Seasons: Sun & Snow
Leaving Tyndrum, it wasn’t long until the sun broke through leading to a beautiful blue sky day.

This showed the mountains in all their splendour, the snow covering highlighting their natural beauty.

As we progressed, the cloud could be seen darkening ahead.

The advantage of this was that we had sufficient warning of change and plentiful time to don gloves and put up our hoods ahead of the snow coming on again.

Clearing again, Beinn Dòrain was resplendent in the sun, almost making us question our choices.

I loved that the changes in weather and the skies made it so much more interesting. This section of the walk has felt long in the past but this was not the case today.

We got closer to Bridge of Orchy, catching up with other walkers as we progressed and enjoying some chat.

Leaving this section behind, we reached Bridge of Orchy in sunshine.

As we walked down from the station we met a hill walker carrying crampons and an ice axe. Chatting with him our thoughts were confirmed; he’d needed the crampons on the mountains as there was pretty deep snow and a fair bit of ice. All we have with us is microspikes, so going high would have been folly.
Coffee, Scones and a Beer
We stopped at Bridge of Orchy Hotel once more. The staff here are lovely and we were warmly welcomed back. We enjoyed coffee, delicious scones with jam and cream, then a wee half for the road.
Up and Over to Inveroran
We left in sunshine and as we made our way up the hill the cloud closed in again, although we had sufficient time for us to catch the view back to Bridge of Orchy.

Thereafter we had a wonderful Scottish weather experience of snow, sleet and hail; a wonderful facial of hailstones, joyous! The views were largely obscured at this point, but as we descended to Inveroran the sky began to clear and the sun broke through once again.

Arriving at the hotel, we checked in and headed to the bar to socialise with other walkers, none of whom had the good fortune of a bed, a few of whom were able to enjoy the delicious food on offer before heading out to find a camping place for the night.
Showered and clean, time for dinner and a reminder of why I love this hotel so much! Beautiful food in every sense!

That food does look gorgeous 😍
